This chapter shows a database of parodies published in books, book sections, magazines and newspapers and various other sources. It is mainly based on the bibliography of the rubáiyát by A.G. Potter (1929), Jos Biegstraaten’s study ‘Omar with a smile’ (2004), Michelle Kaiserlian’s thesis Infinite Transformation (2010), Roger Paas’ catalog Edward FitzGerald’s Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám and Related Materials (2023).
For further details see the Bibliography
The distinction between parody and adaptation, imitation etcetera often is arbitrary. There is no generally accepted definition that would be helpful to decide whether a title is a true parody or not. For this survey no specific description is given of what makes a parody a parody and as a result discussion is very well possible about the listed items.
